Roland Matthé is Technical Fellow for Battery Systems and Manager for electrification architecture at Opel Automobile GmbH. Since 2011 he is heading the battery system leadership team, overseeing the future strategy for automotive battery systems, research results and field experience from current battery systems.
From 2007 to 2011 he had been leading the development of the VOLTec Lithium-Ion battery system for Opel Ampera and Chevrolet Volt at the General Motors Technical Center in Michigan, USA.

Since 1997, he held various position in GM’s fuel cell team, leading system engineering group, fuel cell system component development and future fuel cell system architecture definition.

After joining Adam Opel AG in 1989 he worked on electric vehicle development and battery integration for the Opel Impuls electric vehicles gaining experience with all types of automotive battery systems.

Roland Matthé received his “Diplom Ingenieur” title (master’s degree) in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Darmstadt in 1989.
